The ISPO Education Standards for Prosthetic/Orthotic Occupations handbook aims to ensure that prosthetic/orthotic education programmes have the appropriate infrastructure and resources to develop students into entry-level practitioners that will provide quality prosthetic/orthotic services, the new Education Standards respond to the evolving needs of persons with disabilities and the aging population worldwide: the number of people in need of assistive products is growing steadily, yet there is a significant shortage in competent workforce and available training programmes.

The development of the standards was guided by the World Health Organization and relevant health professions to ensure that the format and content are appropriate and evident at policy and operational levels, across a range of settings, within and between countries.
